The Silver Birch Cowl pattern is inspired by the elegant silver birch trees that grow on our smallholding in Poynings, Sussex. Their delicate bark and slender forms are echoed in the cowl’s gently textured stitch pattern, creating a wearable tribute to the landscape we call home.

SKILL LEVEL - INTERMEDIATE 

I would suggest this knitting pattern is best suited for knitters who have had some experience of knitting in the round and have some knowledge of knitting lace patterns.

However, the pattern comes with a free downloadable video tutorial showing you step-by-step how to knit this cowl pattern.

KNITTING COWL CONSTRUCTION

This cowl design is knitted in the round from the bottom up.

FINISHED COWL MEASUREMENTS

Cowl Length - 56cm (22in)

Cowl Width (unstretched) - 16cm (6 1/2 in)

MATERIALS REQUIRED

- Small Flock Yarns DK (1 x 100g skein) wool. 

The sample is knitted using the Diamond Flock DK, 100% Kent Romney Wool (approx 228m/250yds per 100g) but you can use any of the Small Flock Yarns DK wool range.

• 1 x 3.75mm (US 5) circular needle, 60cm long
• 1 x Stitch Marker (for marking the beginning of the round)
• Row Counter
• Scissors for cutting the yarn (I recommend a pair of embroidery scissors)
